How was the name Maisey Mae chosen?

My sister and I were visiting family in England - it was our first trip and we were both were in awe of the beauty of the country. One foggy morning we visited Leeds Castle and while we were there I saw a beautiful little girl feeding the ducks with her Mom. She was all dressed up for the outing, wearing a fancy wide brimmed hat and matching coat. When it was time to leave, her Mom, in the most beautiful British dialect called her name, “Maisey, Maisey”. I’d never heard the name before and instantly loved it. On the plane ride home I kept thinking of the name, Maisey, and then came up with the middle name “Mae”. I went to college in the South and, unlike the North, a lot of people are called by their first and middle name. When I got home I told my husband that if we ever had a baby girl I definitely wanted to name her Maisey Mae! Being the Irish Bostonian that he is this just did not fly - way too much for him – and it was an instant no! This is how Maisey Mae Designs was born… my first baby girl!

FUN 'Mommies Who Shop' Sale!

We had a great time meeting all the Boston area 'mommies' who visited Maisey Mae at the 'Mommies Who Shop Sale! This was MM's 1st "sale" show and we marked our products TO SELL - we even had a $1 bin (see pictures)! Savvy Mom's know a good deal when they see when, so they scooped up lots of goodies for themselves and their gift closets.

One of the most exciting finds for the ladies was Maisey Mae personalized burp cloths selling for only $5($9 savings!)!!!! We still have some names left in our treasure box, so check them out in the 10/29 entry and e-mail us if you'd like more information. We can ship them directly to you!

These are my absolute favorite albums - so attractive and they make organizing your child's school year very, very easy. Wow!

Talk about a perfect setting for a baptism - this was truly special. On the rocky coast of Maine our latest Maisey Mae Baby, Phoebe, was 'Queen for the Day' surrounded by the love of family and friends. (Of course, we were happy that she decided to bring a personalized Maisey burp cloth along!) The celebration was wonderful in every possible way. Stunning!

'The Boutique' at MMC

Recently Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine built a gorgeous, multi-million dollar, state of the art facility to welcome little one's into the world! It's truly spa-like and is receiving *rave* reviews from all of my friends who have delivered there.

Part of the renovation was the addition of a swanky baby boutique chock full of fantastic baby gifts. We were thrilled when 'The Boutique' asked to carry Maisey Mae's line and they even gave us our own section of the store! They carry a big array of gift sets, cozy chenille-backed bibs, adorable big brother and big sister tees and offer personalization for all of their Maisey Mae goodies! Parking is super easy and free (!) , so whether you're at the hospital to visit or are looking for a baby gift - it's definitely worth checking out 'The Boutique.'

Maisey Mae at the Don Martin Classic

Last Friday was a very busy day, but not at Maisey Mae's studio... we were closed!

We were all at the 3rd annual Don Martin Classic at the beautiful Prouts Neck Country Club in Scarborough, Maine. The golf tournament is named in memory of my dad and in the past 3 years has raised over $110,000. 100% of the money is donated to local charities and is given directly to people who are in great need. Despite the pouring rain, cold and having to call the tournament short due to flooding (!) everyone had a fun time playing golf and attending the cocktail party/live and silent auction.

The winner of the Maisey Mae Designs Gift Certificate was Minna from Portland, Maine. We delivered 2 "Boy Set 5's" to her yesterday and she' s off to a baby shower this weekend!

There were so many companies who donated to the auction, it was amazing. We'd like to say a special thank you to our friends at Sea Bags for their generous donation of a large Star Sea Bag. It was a hotly contested silent auction item and the lucky winner was Rhonda Senger of Yarmouth, Maine. Thank you Sea Bags and thank you Rhonda!

Hello from beautiful Cape Elizabeth, Maine...

Six years after creating Maisey Mae Designs I decided it was finally time to extend our line to boutiques and stores. Historically 99% of Maisey Mae products have been sold to our wonderful and loyal individual customers. We decided to take the leap and "launch" Maisey Mae in NYC at our first national trade show, "Children's Club", held at the Javits Center. Buyers from across the country shop here 4x a year to buy baby & children's products for their stores.

Never having exhibited at a show before - it was a TON of work getting ready - my biggest challenge was designing our booth - here is how it all began....

I designed this three-dimensional 8" to scale model and did my best to try to visualize what it would look like as a 5' x 10' booth. Then I held my breath and hope for the best - here are the results...

Our very sweet Big Brother & Big Sister Tees (my carpenter is a GENIUS -he made these displays - love them!)
A 1/2 hour before the show opened (yikes!) I had to create 2 large "Burp Cloth" signs (see above the burp cloths on the back wall). The exhibitors across the aisle told me that they assumed I was selling embroidered hand towels...that would not have been good for business!

Overall, our first show was a success. We built lots of relationships with stores and other manufacturers, got Maisey Mae's name out there, wrote orders and learned a tremendous amount about the retail end of the children's /baby business.
